Ces 5 dernières années, Elie Sebastian Brumbaugh a participé à 28 art shows.

Thank You Houston

Thanks to everyone of you who came out to ArtStorm on Saturday for our Creature Comforts art show. The show in our opinion was a total success. The reviews have been great, and a lot of people bought pieces which helps us keep our doors open for one more month. We can't thank you enough. Without you there would be no ArtStorm.

We're all really excited to keep working on bigger and better shows to keep giving Houston what it wants when it can't find it anywhere else.

A big thanks to Free Press Houston for their constant support of my ridiculous artistic endeavors over the last 5 years. To Dusti Rhodes over at the Houston Press for her being kind enough to write an article on the show. Houston Press as well for listing the show. To NY Arts Magazine for writing about ArtStorm and Creature Comforts in their latest issue. "Alive and Well in the Deep South" July - August 2008. GlassTire for listing the show. Ramon Medina for his awesome review of the show and each and everyone of you who told your friends about it and dragged them to the opening. A big thanks to St. Arnold's for hooking us up and allowing us to serve their excellent beer.

A huge thanks to The Young Mammals for never stopping to amazing me when I see them live. Wicked Poser for playing a mean set, and Hard Place for choosing ArtStorm as their venue for their stop in Houston while on Tour. A big thanks to ArtStorm Board Member Chris Casio (of Wicked Poser) for running sound.

Last but not lease thanks to the hard work of Shane Hillman, Lisa Marie Godfrey, and the other artists who spent several nights pulling all nighters with me setting up the installation. As well as a huge thanks to Red Bull, Monster, and Nos energy drinks for giving my heart palpitations but keeping me up long enough to get the show done.

Once again thank you for your continued support.

Cross posted with Facebook.

Houstonist Interview on Myself, ArtStorm, and the Houston Scene

Michelle Calabretta, from the Houstonist was kind enough to interview me recently about my Creature Comforts show, ArtStorm as an organization, and my views on the art scene here in Houston.

ArtStorm is Moving to the Museum District!

ArtStorm is extremely proud to announce that, this summer, we are moving to an innovative new space in the Caroline Collective building, in the heart of Houston’s thriving Museum District. Beginning in June 2008, ArtStorm will occupy two galleries at 4828 Caroline Street, just blocks away from Lawndale Art Center, the Center for Contemporary Craft, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, as well as the Metrorail’s Museum District station.

We’ll be using the newly renovated galleries for larger exhibitions!

We’ll also offer ample parking, which is available in the adjacent lot and along all surrounding streets, to better accommodate our guests.

Shoot From The Hip, curated by ArtStorm board members Melissa Juvan and Isela Aguirre, is an innovative show featuring unusual and interesting alternatives to standard photographic processes such as digital prints, Polaroids, photo-collage and mixed media. Both curators are experienced photographers by trade and for this show they have assembled the work of thirteen local photographers to explore the medium and its infinite potential for innovation and change through experimentation.

From Chuck Ivy’s pinhole camera images to Alicia Seale’s visceral Polaroids, many traditional visual themes are represented, all of them conveyed by decidedly unconventional means. Jim Dillon prefers to incorporate double exposures and light drawings into his photography, while Daniel Hipolito utilizes video to create distorted perspectives, saturated with vivid colors. Alex Nguyen begins with black and white prints and manipulates them into sculptural mixed media, and Lisa Marie Godfrey uses vintage photos as a base for drawings. Michelle Fleming interprets high fashion photography in her own dark way, and Laura Turner and Gabriella Solis capture the architectural form of everyday objects. Co-curators Melissa Juvan and Isela Aguirre will also exhibit their own work collaboratively, in a unique projected installation piece shown for the first time in Shoot from the Hip. Newcomers to the art scene John Hines and Kelly Ekl round out the show of technically diverse photographers.

The opening reception for Shoot from the Hip will feature an interactive “Polaroid Wall.” We invite all guests to participate in posing for a Polaroid to post on the wall, which commemorates the event.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 7- 10 PM, and the work will be on view through May 31, 2008.

Vanishing Lessons Art Show March 28th @ Three Muse Gallery

This show is the brain child of Chan Frazier. This will be her first art show she's curated here in Houston. Shes doing the exact same thing me and my friends did when I was in high school putting together DIY art shows at places like super happy fun land, and the Southmore House. This brings back a lot of old memories.

Long story short come on out and support a new face to the Houston art scene. She's working hard to put this show together. Come on guys.

Young Mammals / The Dimes

I recently finished working on a design for the press kit the Young Mammals will be using for SXSW (South by Southwest) this year in Austin, Texas.

I have to say its always nice to work with these guys on anything at all. Out of all of the awards they've been given they need one for being nice guys.

If you live in Houston, Texas you know who The Dimes are. If you pay attention to great music you know they're now called "Young Mammals" and still making waves in Houston's music scene.

I was lucky enough to work with Chester Soria on this project as he helped manage the entire project. If you get a chance be sure to check out his blog.

Young Mammals will be playing SXSW on Thursday, March 13 at The Tap Room at 6 p.m. in Austin, Texas.

Also Thank You to Chester for the really nice blog regarding my work with him

Westheimer Block Party Music / Arts List

Westheimer Block Party April 12th, 2008
12PM- 12AM
300-500 Block of Westheimer
FREE!

The Westheimer Block Party rears its ugly head again this spring with a celebration of local music, art, and other things full of awesome-ness. This spring's block party will host not only the usual revelry of 50 bands, 6 stages, loads of artists and their installations, but will also hosts events into the evening. To close the evening, Free Press will host And you will know us by the Trail of Dead and several local favorites ( just 10 bux) inside Numbers. Like always, the fest is free and will be located at the 300-500 block of Westheimer. Last November’s Block Party was our most successful with more than 4,000 attendees, excellent local reviews, and a great time had by all. Nonetheless, this spring’s event will host a slew of new elements with an expanded underground arts show, a canned food drive, and our best musical line-up yet. Stages will be hosted at Number’s, Avant Garden, La Strada, and Mangos Cantina. Interspersed between all the great local music will be live painting, exhibits of all sorts, and many ‘cash and carry’ artist booths.

Ultimately, this day is going to be so magical you may change your religion and question your own sexuality. We expect nothing less.

April 12th Westheimer Block Party

Just because I'm pretty pumped for this block party. Free Press has gotten a handful of local art organizers and combined our forces . We have rolled nothing but 20's. Be on the look out!

Thank You Houston

The Obsessive, Compulsive, Awesome opening @ ArtStorm went wonderfully. It was the best one we've had yet. People were out in full force. Many people bought paintings, t-shirts representing the show and donated kindly to our cause.

The artwork will be on view through March 22, 2008 please feel free to come by and check it out if you missed the opening.

Many of us were out supporting our great local publication the FREE PRESS HOUSTON. Happy 5 years guys!

River Oaks Theatre & ArtStorm

In the near future I will be putting up some artwork at the River Oaks Theater with the crew from ArtStorm. If you’re in Houston and get a chance swing by, or happen to seeing a movie there be sure to check it out. You don’t have to pay for a ticket to go up stairs to the lounge area where the gallery wall is. Just tell them what you’re there for.
